Ran out and got Hitchhiker's on DVD. Lovely.
THE EXTRAS:
They're decent, nothing particularly exciting, although I have yet to watch either commentary track. There are a couple of deleted scenes, one of which I don't remember, one of which (Zaphod making out with the VP) was wisely cut, and the other of which (just a couple of lines about how Earth is "Mostly Harmless") definitely should have been left in. There were a couple of fake deleted scenes, the first of which involved Army!Arthur bursting into the Vogon building holding a semi-automatic rather than an arm. Sam Rockwell talked on his cell and Martin Freeman tried to get them to change the scene 'cause he didn't like his cammoflage makeup. The second one involved a dachsund and Slartibartfast. It was a damn cute dachsund, too. :) Also, there was a making of featurette, a SLaTfAtF sing-along, and that's about it, really... The making of thing wasn't bad, but it was short. Oh, MF and ZD's screentest, though? Funny. *Really* funny. As in... just... you have to see to believe. It involves dancing, obviously uncoordinated, and MF in something that quite resembles his actual costume, except it's purple.
THE FILM:
The VP has stopped annoying me as someone I don't understand. Now I understand her (in the way that her story arc seems to make sense *see below*, I don't get the bit where she's madly in love with Zaphod), but she just annoys me as someone who is perfecly pointless, except in that one scene where the Vogons want their soup and she's all confused. Also, the POV scene never fails to move. And the mice... they're cheeky. Cheeky mice. And Dentarthurdent? Cute as a button. And I'm still in love with Trillian's wooly socks. Actually, in Thud, Vimes has wooly socks.... Coincidence? At any rate, it's still a kick-ass, if decidedly odd and paced improbably, film.
*below* Stop me if I'm wrong, Lady U, but she basically spends the entire movie chasing after Zaphod because she' trying to get into his pants - that's why she's so eager to catch them. And she persecutes Trillian unfairly and thinks she's a dirty little trollop because *she* got into his pants *first.* At least, that's the way it seems to me on my... 4th? 5th? viewing....
