More challenges! You can view the updated Challenge Log here.
THE CHALLENGE
A magazine cover (more details below). A story inside the magazine (with pictures accompanying it) is encouraged but very optional, since writing a whole story doesn't exactly show off photoshop skillz but it would be funny.
THE DEADLINE
Before the end of the week, if you're writing a story. 8am Wednesday if you're just doing the cover. (This one can happen at the same time as Challenge 4, since it might take a while to write a story.)
THE SPECIFICATIONS
- Choose 1 character who is famous (or infamous) in their canon. The character can be from any fandom. HOWEVER, if the fandom is a cartoon/comic/anime/manga, it is required that you use a model/actor/real person to represent the character. No drawings allowed! I'm pretty flexible about the definition of "famous" for the sake of having more options. So if you can in any way justify them being on the cover of a magazine, then it's cool.
Some suggestions/options. Feel free to choose your own, this is just brainstorming:
Logan Echolls/Aaron Echolls
Duncan Kane/Jake Kane
alt!Rose Tyler/Ten.5 (as an heiress and her boytoy)
Dr. Brennan (as a novelist)
Dr. Hodgins (as a gazillionaire)
Cordelia Chase (as a (failed) actress)
Lily Aldrin (you could argue she's a well-known painter since she's selling to vets now)
Simon Tam/River Tam/Mr. Dad-Type Tam
Nathan Petrelli/Peter Petrelli/Angela Petrelli
Daisy Adair (but only in the 1930's - it could be an ooooooold magazine!)
Karen Tyler (as a travel book writer)
Shawn Spencer (local hero?)
- Make a tabloid magazine cover, focusing on that character and all the scandalous stories of their life. Who are they sleeping with? What frivolous things are they spending money on? What drama is their family going through? How drunk were they last night? What are their pets wearing? How many kuala bears are they shipping to their private island? Be creative!
- Photo manips are not necessary. However, bonus points if you do them.
- It's encouraged to use pictures of the actors out of costume, actually posing for the camera at an event, or actually looking run-down and papperazzi-stalked. But you don't have to; you can just use screencaps.
- This part is optional! Once you've got the cover done, write the story that the cover is advertising! Include pictures, so you actually have to open photoshop to do it.
- This one is just for shits and giggles, so it's not going to be the most challenging challenge ever. Make up for the lack of necessary photoshop skillz by making it ridiculous and amusing!
And because I really have nothing better to do:
THE CHALLENGE
A wallpaper, of proper wallpaper size (800x600 or larger equivalent).
THE DEADLINE
8am Thursday.
THE SPECIFICATIONS
- "I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge, that myth is more potent than history, that dreams are more powerful than facts, that hope always triumphs over experience, that laughter is the only cure for grief, and I believe that love is stronger than death." — Robert Fulghum
- Three options:
a) Choose two characters from a fandom who embody one or more of the things in the quote (ie. one character would embody imagination, myth, dreams, and/or hope, and the other would embody knowledge, history, facts, and/or experience).
b) Choose a moment/storyline in which the ideas in the quote come into conflict with each other.
c) Choose a romance that is stronger than death (or vice-versa). The catch here is that one of the characters has to die and stay dead (so probably nothing from Alias).
-Use one of the following fandoms:
Firefly
Wonderfalls
Veronica Mars
Doctor Who
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Bones
Alias
Psych
Lord of the Rings
- You can agree with the quote and show imagination etc. triumphing over knowledge etc., or you could go the opposite way and show knowledge pwning imagination in the face. Or you could leave it open-ended.
- Be as concrete or abstract as you like.
- No requirements about what text you use. You could use some other quote/song lyrics/etc, or you could include the quote I gave. Or both. Or no words at all. Doesn't matter.
- As usual, it must be a blend, manip, or collage, not just one picture.
- Roll with it. Do three wallpapers for all three options, if you so desire. If you decide to do more than one wallpaper, each one must be for a different option. You can't do two wallpapers for a single option.
And there's a lot more where that came from ;)
